What to Expect during your Newborn Session
With so many new followers to our page and also lots of new changes going on I thought I would pop on and talk more about our stunning newborn sessions!
Firstly if you are expecting, congratulations!
What a wonderful time ahead and as two mums ourselves we know how absolutely precious your little babies are.
Newborn photography is something we feel incredibly passionate about and hopefully our images tell that story. The amount of love and care we pour into every session I hope has been evident to all of our lovely clients in the past 10 years and we cannot wait to meet our new families and continue this journey with you all.
Newborn Photography is an investment, producing photographs that you will treasure forever. We do not rush our sessions, they are a labour of love from the session itself through to the editing process and beautiful art products that we sell once you have chosen your photographs. We also invest in beautiful outfits, props and fabrics from some of the best vendors in our business.
I thought I would pop a few common questions that we often get in regard to Newborn Sessions!
When should I book my Newborn Session?
We advise booking in your session after your 20 week scan.
Our newborn slots get filled very quickly and due to the unpredictable nature of birth we never overbook and only take on a few limited sessions per week. This allows us to ensure that if baby is early or late we always have availability for you!
How much should I budget for a newborn session?
We take a £50 deposit when you book which covers our time on the day, Photographers talent, travel costs, use of all props, fabrics and outfits plus the editing and preparation of your Newborn Gallery.
We offer two beautiful digital packages for you to choose from. Our first package allows for a slightly more focused session which is shorter in length and we will ask you to pre select two of your favourite props and coloured blankets. This is a 1-2 hour session and includes your favourite 10 digital images for £395. Our second digital package is the full newborn session which is a 3-4 hour session and includes full choice of all props and coloured blankets as well as your favourite 20 digital images for £495. Our full newborn sessions also benefit from a £50 voucher towards products and wall art. Our core packages are digital which means you can take away the best of everything we have photographed and show it off to all your family, send it overseas or fill your social media pages with your beautiful images. Your £50 booking deposit will be deducted from your package choice.
We offer a selection of beautiful framed Art work to compliment your home. These can be added on to any of our digital packages and are a beautiful way to display your gorgeous photos. Whats even better is we will show you a preview in your gallery of how your images will look so you can really visualise how they will hang in your home.
Why is there a different pricing structure for Newborn Sessions?
Newborn sessions are specialist not only in the way in which we create your images but also the way we edit them. There is so much love, care and work that goes into every newborn image we make.
We do not rush things and take great pride in all of our photographs. We prefer to take a baby led approach with our newborn shooting so if we need to stop to ensure baby is fed and happy then we will do just that.
We often use composite images (when two images are taken in quick succession, placing a safe hand on baby in a different position) to ensure baby safety at all times, these images require additional editing.
Quite often baby has milk spots, milia, jaundice and other common newborn conditions may need gentle retouching which can be time consuming so this is all included within our pricing structure.
We understand that our sessions are an investment for our families and we want to be accessible for everyone. Please speak with us for more information on our payment plans.
Are Newborn sessions safe at the moment?
Shooting newborns requires close contact and we will ensure we wash hands frequently. We have both been vaccinated and have a strict wellness policy for both photographer and client to keep everyone safe. We completely understand that some families may have concerns so please speak with us if you are worried. We will also take a LFT before your session.
Do I have to have props if I prefer a more natural look?
Definitely not. Every newborn session we do is tailored to our clients. We will always be happy to advise, guide and style your session but ultimately we are here to create images that YOU love.
Newborn sessions can be absolutely natural and stripped back with more of a focus on beautiful newborn details such as hands, feet, hair curls and details. If you want a heavier focus on more journalistic and less posed images please check out our newborn lifestyle shoots!
How to Prepare For Your Session
Before your Newborn session we will have had a chat about what you love so that we can plan the styling for your session. We’ll discuss favourite colours and thoughts on accessories and set ups.
It’s always useful to think about what to wear, what can you imagine in a frame up on your wall?
White always looks beautiful and timeless. Why not choose colours that may compliment your home and surroundings and that you feel most comfortable and confident in.
As we will be in the comfort of your own home you will be able to rest and relax as we take your photographs. It is helpful for us to have a clear area to work in as we will be bringing our light and sets. If you feel there may be a more suitable space to shoot in please let us know before we set up. This may even mean having the shoot at a friend or family members home. We also love to take family portraits in the bedroom or by a large window so it is helpful to have these areas tidy and accessible on the day of your session.
As baby will sometimes be naked or wrapped it is very important that your home is warm and comfortable (sometimes a little warmer than what is comfortable for you is preferable)
What to expect on the day of your Session
On the day of your session we will arrive and set up. We will have a chat and show you some of our favourite outfits and accessories that you can look through and select whilst you feed and settle your baby. We will often wrap baby first and have you feed and settle rather than have to disturb your little one after a feed to change them. Once baby is happy, sleepy and fed we will begin to work our magic and work through the different set ups we have prepared.
Some babies take a little longer than others to settle but please do not worry! It may also be a wonderful opportunity to capture some beautiful wide awake shots! We will photograph your family together if you would like these as well as any sibling photographs you may like too. Our sessions can sometimes run over schedule and this is ok! We are mainly baby led so please do not worry at all.
We will always ensure that we capture the very best images for you. At the same time we are mindful that you are parents of a very teeny baby and we know exactly how this feels, there is a lot of patience involved in our sessions and the trust of you welcoming us into your home. We always try to be respectful and work through our set ups as efficiently as we can. Once we pack up we will prepare your gallery of images to view and these should normally be available one to two weeks after your session.
How do you choose your photographs after your session?
We will send you a link to a private, password protected online gallery that you can look through at your own leisure in the comfort of your own home. We will prepare a beautiful edited gallery for you to choose from including some beautiful ideas for wall art too. Your photographs will be edited in colour with some black and white choices too. We LOVE to hear how much you love your images so please do send us a text or message to let us know. We love reading them 🙂 We are always at the end of the phone if you need some additional assistance in choosing and selecting your favourite images. This includes tailoring frame and wall art to your tastes so always let us know if you would like to see a certain image built into a product or frame we are more than happy to help.
You will have seven days to select your images and we will liaise with you and finalise your choices and payment. Once payment has been made images will be available to download and we will begin the ordering process for any chosen Wall Art.
Wall Art may take up to 4 weeks for delivery and we will always endeavour to keep you updated should any unexpected delays arise. We ask that digital images that are downloaded within 7 days and are checked for quality upon download. We greatly advise these are backed up on multiple platforms, such as a hard drive, cloud and desktop. It’s so important to have extra copies and back ups.
I hope I have given you all a little more information on our lovely Newborn at Home Sessions and got you a little excited about getting ready to have your session! Please always feel free to message us or give us a call any time to go through any questions you may have! We always prefer to chat on the phone, after all you are welcoming us into your home to photograph your tiny new bundle of joy! We love to get to know our clients as that ensures we can do the very best job in capturing ‘You’ in our images.
I hope you all have a wonderful week and we look forward to meeting you soon!
Lots of Love
